Hand On Web · Chester & UK retailers

E-commerce AI that helps your shop work better

Help shoppers find the right information, give your team fewer repetitive steps and connect the work behind the store.

We bring website design, e-commerce SEO, customer-service chatbots and practical automation together. The starting point is your customers and your team—not a list of features you may never need.

Based at Riverside Innovation Centre in Chester. Local meetings by appointment; online collaboration across the UK.

Start with the task

Where e-commerce AI can be useful

A customer asking about delivery needs a dependable answer. A member of staff handling an exception needs context and control. We scope each workflow around those needs.

These are possible project areas, not a claim that every feature is already installed in every shop below.

01 · Product discovery

Help shoppers choose

Bring product details, compatibility guidance and useful buying questions into the browsing journey. Recommendations should be grounded in your catalogue, with uncertainty made clear.

Keep control: Check suitability and availability before presenting a recommendation.

02 · Customer-service chatbots

Answer routine questions

Give customers another way to find delivery information, product guidance and store policies. Voice and text can sit alongside your existing product pages and contact routes.

Keep control: Offer a clear route to a person when the answer or situation needs judgement.

03 · Order workflows

Support order enquiries safely

Where your platform and permissions allow it, connect an authenticated customer to the relevant order status. Route return requests and delivery exceptions to the right team.

Keep control: Private order details need identity checks; refunds need an agreed approval process.

04 · Listing optimisation

Improve product information

Use search research to improve titles, descriptions, category content and internal links. AI can help prepare drafts while your product facts and specialist knowledge remain the source of truth.

Keep control: Review changes before publishing; never invent specifications, stock or reviews.

05 · E-commerce automation

Connect the back-office steps

Map repeat tasks such as stock alerts, support routing and follow-up preparation. Start with a bounded workflow and make its status and exceptions visible to your team.

Keep control: Price changes, purchasing and customer messages need explicit rules and permissions.

06 · Measurement and review

Learn from the whole journey

Review search performance, consented website analytics and support outcomes together. Use the evidence to decide which product content, enquiry steps or workflows need attention next.

Keep control: Search clicks, sales and resolved conversations are different measures.

From a useful idea to a working process

A clear scope. A careful launch. Ongoing attention.

Store information changes. So do stock, policies and the questions customers ask. The work includes maintaining those connections, not simply switching a chatbot on.

  1. Step 1

    Choose a useful starting point

We look at customer questions, catalogue quality, existing systems and the work your team repeats. Together we choose a workflow with a clear owner and a measurable purpose.

  2. Step 2

    Connect the right information

We identify approved product and policy sources, required access and what the assistant may do. Missing or conflicting information is resolved before it becomes an automated answer.

  3. Step 3

Test the ordinary and the awkward

Test routine questions alongside unavailable products, unclear requests and exceptions. Check mobile use, privacy boundaries, human handoff and what happens when a connected system fails.

  4. Step 4

    Release, review and refine

Start with the agreed scope, review the available results and correct weak points. As your stock, policies or service priorities change, the information and workflows need attention too.

Retail work you can inspect

Real stores, with the numbers in context

Tropical Fish Co and Aquatropics show our work on specialist retail websites and search visibility. Their case studies explain the delivery, the measurement and the limits of each result.

The figures below measure Google search discovery. They do not measure chatbot accuracy, sales or staff time saved.

Tropical Fish Co

A custom Shopify-connected storefront, search-led product information and a text-chat shopping assistant (walkthrough checked 21 September 2026).

12,693

Google Search clicks in 28 days

22 August–18 September 2026. Web search, all countries, all devices.

92.3% more clicks than 25 July–21 August 2026. Read the matched comparisons and selected queries in the case study.

Tropical Fish Co is owned and run by Hand On Web’s founder: our own shop, not an independent client. It shows our hands-on work, not a customer endorsement.

Aquatropics

WooCommerce retail work, product and category search visibility, with a separate record of current and historical performance.

10,402

Google Search clicks in 28 days

22 August–18 September 2026. Web search, all countries, all devices.

13.8% fewer clicks than 25 July–21 August 2026. Read the matched comparisons and selected queries in the case study.

See how support fits into a shopping journey

On Tropical Fish Co, our founder’s own shop, the text-chat assistant is part of a wider experience: product pages, care information, category browsing and a route to the retail team.

Explore the case study, then visit the store and try a general product or care question using the available assistant. Keep private order and payment information out of a demonstration. Specialist advice and decisions about animal welfare, dispatch or exceptions stay with the retail team.

Product content that serves the shopper first

Search research helps us understand the questions and buying terms a product page should answer. We combine the available search data with your catalogue and expertise, then review titles, descriptions, useful category pages and internal links.

For Amazon or eBay listing optimisation, the account data, marketplace rules and listing fields are different. We agree the marketplace scope separately. A Google ranking is not an Amazon ranking, and a keyword estimate is not a count of live buyers.

For larger catalogues, start with a representative batch. Check factual accuracy and results before expanding; bulk generation without review can spread the same mistake across many pages.

Measure the outcome, not just the activity

Search discovery
Matched date ranges, brand and non-brand queries, relevant product/category clicks and clearly labelled positions.
The buying journey
Consented analytics, useful actions and sales records where tracking is reliable. Review stock, seasonality and other campaigns before drawing conclusions.
Customer service
Resolution quality, handoffs, repeat contacts and staff time, alongside the running cost of the system.

Useful, accessible pages also support eligibility for Google’s AI search features. There is no special wording that guarantees a recommendation. Read Google’s guidance.

Scope & pricing

Start with the work your store actually needs

An assistant answering product questions is a different project from authenticated order support or a catalogue-wide content programme. We establish what is included before recommending a package.

  • Your platform, catalogue and information quality
  • The workflows, channels and permissions required
  • Implementation, usage and third-party running costs
  • Testing, ongoing support and the review process

Questions about e-commerce AI

What is e-commerce AI?

E-commerce AI uses software to help with tasks such as product discovery, customer questions, content preparation and operational workflows. It works best when it has reliable store information, a clearly defined job and a route back to a person. It is not a substitute for accurate product data or responsible retail decisions.

Can you add an AI chatbot to an existing online shop?

We assess your current storefront, platform access, product data and customer-service process before recommending an approach. Shopify-connected and WooCommerce projects are among the work shown in our case studies. The available features depend on your platform, permissions and the scope agreed for your store.

Can an assistant handle orders, returns and refunds?

It can explain published policies and help route an enquiry. Access to private order information requires suitable authentication and an approved integration. Returns and refunds need explicit business rules and human approval where required; a general chat answer must not be treated as authorisation to change an order.

Do you optimise Amazon and eBay listings as well?

Listing optimisation can be included in a scoped project. We review the relevant marketplace data, product facts, listing fields and current platform rules before preparing changes. Google search performance is not evidence of Amazon or eBay ranking, and the research available depends on the account access and tools in scope.

Will this improve SEO or make AI search recommend my shop?

Useful product information, accessible pages and clear internal links support search discovery. We measure Google search performance separately from assistant conversations and sales. No one can promise a particular ranking or inclusion in an AI answer; the case studies show dated observations, not a forecast for another shop.

How do you measure time saved or return on investment?

Agree a baseline first: the tasks involved, staff time, conversation outcomes, repeat contacts and costs. Compare a suitable period after launch, including software costs and the work still handled by people. Search clicks alone do not prove revenue or customer-service savings, so we do not use them as a substitute for those measurements.

Do I need to replace my team or automate the whole store?

No. A useful first project may be one recurring question or a single back-office task. Your team keeps control of specialist advice and consequential decisions. We agree what remains manual, how staff take over and what information they receive when a conversation is handed back.

How much does an e-commerce AI project cost?

The cost depends on the catalogue, integrations, conversation channels, usage and ongoing support. Our pricing page provides the current service information; a written proposal confirms the work included, implementation and running costs, and applicable terms before work begins.
